Combines at Paston in 1954

(1954 / North Walsham, Norfolk)

Four in a row in the field known as 'The Duffus' on Paston Hall Farm. On the front one Lenny Smith driving and Herbert 'Joe' Larke sacking; on the second Kenny Gladden driving and Herbert 'Stump' Woodhouse sacking. I cannot recognise the men on the other two combines, maybe somebody from Paston can tell me, if so I would be grateful. That evening was the only time I saw four combines working together. If my memory is correct two were based at Hall Farm and the other two had been brought over from the company's farm at Southrepps so they could finish the harvest.
Thanks to John Capes for this photo.
